What is civil society?

Civil society refers to the space which lies between the state and private sectors and represent un-coerced collective action around common interests, purposes and values. Civil society comprises a diversity of spaces, actors and institutions varying in their degree of formality, autonomy and power. Civil society is valued for its civilian nature and its role in strengthening peace and stability.

 

ACSF believes in democratic principles, people's participation and is committed to:

  • Striving for inclusiveness in processes and actions
  • Emphasizing non-partisanship, transparency and accountability

ACSF Civic Education Resource Center Coordination Meeting Nov, 28, 2007

1. Civic Education monthly activity report to the participants
2. Future plans of partner NGOs
3. How to build good coordination among partner NGOs

Opening of the Meeting
The last coordination meeting was held on November 28, 2007, in ACSF meeting hall.
Ahmad Munir Younosi Civic Education Acting project manager facilitated the meeting with the assistance of the Civic Education team.
Younosi warmly welcomed the participants and shared the agenda of the meeting with them.

Summary
1. Monthly activities report:
All the participants briefly reported their monthly activities.

ACSF Civic Education Section
Ahmad Munir Younosi acting project manager discussed the monthly activities report of the civic education section to the participants; as follow:
• Installation of sixteen (16) information boxes in schools’ of Kabul, Herat and Kandahar Provinces and updating fresh learning materials for 71 schools in Kabul and other provinces.
• Printing out two editions of Jamea-e-Madani Magazine.
• New edition of newsletter has been published.
• Four training manuals have been completed and six other training manuals will be completed in the second week of December, 2007 and from all four of them have been translated into Pashto, we are willing to translate all manuals into Pashto too and then will send them to be published.
• Two workshops have been conducted for schools in different districts of Kabul Province.
• Conduction of meeting with political parties regarding election law.
• Conduction of workshops in provinces (Takhar, Balkh, Kandahar and Ningarhar) on Human Rights, Women Rights and Democracy topics.

AOHREP
Mr.Sakhi Sakhi AOHREP representative briefly explained the monthly activity report of his organization to the participants as follows:
• Participation in ACSF workshops
• Mr. Wafa Deputy Managing Director of AOHREP participated in three different workshops in Counterpart International.
• Implementation of a project named to stop “violence against women” in Ningarhar and Laghman province which is funded by ACSF.
• Mr.Abdur Rahman Hotaki the managing director of AOHREP is in Germany for attending an international conference on gender.

HRU
Eng.Fazl Ahmad Deputy Managing Director of AOHREP explained their monthly activity report to the participants as follow:
• Conducted workshops in Hilmand province on peace building.
• Conducted workshop with 21 civil society organizations regarding their future activity plan.
• Participated in two workshops which were conducted by counterpart international.
• Participation in two workshops which were conducted by ACSF.
• Participation in a workshop which was conducted by Afghan Civil Society and Human Rights network.
• Organizational Development preparation.

ANPA
Mr.Nasir Masoud briefly explained their monthly activity report to the participants as follow:
• Implementing radio program in different provinces of Afghanistan.
• Conducted two joint workshops with FEFA in Bamyan and Mazar-e-sharif regarding the future election and the challenges.
• Arranging short programs with the support of afghan human rights independent commission and broadcast it through radios.

AREA
Mr. Sayed Montazir Shah briefly explained their monthly activity report as follow:
• Conduction of peace building workshops in Ningarhar.
• To assist civic education trainers in conducting training workshops in Ningarhar province.
• Participated in PDC meeting.
• Convinced three famous tribal (Momand, Sheenwar and Khokyani) to give permission to their women to participate in nursery programs.
• Conducted three different workshops for communities and government employees.

RSA
Mr. Abbas Faizi explained their monthly activity report as follow:
• Conducted peace building workshop in khawja mery districts of Ghazni province.
• Cooperation with Children in Crisis (CiC) organization regarding child rights programs in ghazni province.
• Implementing TV program by the name of Talaash for baccalaureate students in Tamadun TV.
• Implementing programs regarding “violence against women” and forced marriages.

ADA
Mr. Naseer Rashid explained their monthly activity report as follow:
• Implementing basic education system project in Ningarhar and Panjshir provinces.
• Implementing research project against natural disasters incidents.
• Implemented shelter project.

CoAR
Mr. Halim explained their monthly activity report as follow:
• Implementing Peace building programs in bamyan province.
• Research on how to deduct natural disasters incidents.

2. Future Plans
Ahmad Munir Younosi shared the future plan of civic education section with partner NGOs as follow:
• Conducting training workshops in the province (Takhar, Balkh, Kandahar and Ningarhar).
• Installation of information boxes in schools and universities around the country.
• Printing developed training manuals
• Distribution of Jamea-e-Madani magazine new editions
• Archiving of important documents of ACSF, Partner NGOs, civil society entities and political parties in ACSF resource center.
Subsequently partner NGOs shared their future plans with the participants.

Suggestions
The following suggestions were presented by Partner NGOs:
• ACSF should share their developed manuals, reports and other documents with partner NGOs.
• ACSF Civic Education Section a part from installing information boxes in schools, should also install information boxes in union such as: students union, workers union, lawyers union, journalists union) to raise awareness regarding civil society, democracy, women rights, citizen rights and etc……
• It will be better if ACSF could arrange some workshop on strategy and policy making for partner NGOs once a year.
• It would be better if the coordination meetings take place in partner NGOs conference halls, not only in ACSF.
