What is civil society?

Civil society refers to the space which lies between the state and private sectors and represent un-coerced collective action around common interests, purposes and values. Civil society comprises a diversity of spaces, actors and institutions varying in their degree of formality, autonomy and power. Civil society is valued for its civilian nature and its role in strengthening peace and stability.

 

ACSF believes in democratic principles, people's participation and is committed to:

  • Empowering the Afghan population
  • Embracing the diversity of civil society actors
  • Striving for inclusiveness in processes and actions
  • Emphasizing non-partisanship, transparency and accountability
  • Promoting a sense of voluntarism and social activism

Training on Peace Building and Conflict Transformation

November 14 – December 18 2006

 

The Peace Building Department at ACSF has conducted a training for headquarter staff of partner organizations of ACSF. It consisted of 5 modules. Module 1:  Introduction into the topic peace Building and Conflict Transformation on the macro-level, Relevance of the topic for Afghanistan, Problems of post-war-countries, History of Peace building, Actors in conflict, Module 2: Theories of Conflict, Violence and Peace, Module 3: Conflict analysis, Module 4: communication skills and conflict resolution methods, module 5: mediation and reconciliation.

On December 18 2006 18 participants received their certificate for successful participation in the training.
